The inspiration for this film came from Peter Westen, a friend who sang with me in an a cappella group in college. Peter studied in Japan for a little while and came back touting all of the benefits of the Asian Squat over the traditional western squat. He kept jabbering about it, so I decided to make an instructional film.

All of the actors in this film were wonderful to work with. I originally only had parts for one man and one woman, but both Ewan Chung and Jeff Lam were so good in their auditions that I decided to have them both, and I can’t imagine the film without them. Yee Yee is absolutely beautiful, and everybody who passed by my computer while I was editing the film has a big crush on her. Michael McConnohie was a godsend; he’s a very funny guy, and also a very experienced voice actor, having done voices for The Transformers cartoon back in the 1980s. Alison Reid was a great composer to work with, though I’ve never met her face-to-face, as she lives in Boston and e-mailed me the music files back and forth.

This was the first really successful film I made. It debuted at the 2002 Visual Comunications Film Festival here in Los Angeles, and has helped me to meet a lot of great filmmakers, actors, and other media artists. Many thanks to Greg Pak for hosting this on his website for a few weeks before it was downloaded so many times that it shut his site down. Oops!
